At least one person has been reported dead and three others severely injured in a gun attack on the Royal House Chapel at Kaneshie in Accra.
According to an eye witness, the gang of robbers forayed into the busy automobile spare parts hub in broad day light and robbed some forex bureaux of their sales.
A security man at the Royal House Chapel was shot after he tried to deny the unknown men believed to be armed robbers access to the church premises.
Those who were shot in the process were said to be running after the armed men and screaming ‘thieves’, ‘thieves’.
Two of the suspected robbers were arrested but two others including a lady escaped, the eye witness said.
They are being hunted by the police.
Myjoyonline’s Edwin Appiah reports that the owner of the forex bureau was among the injured.
“About three armed robbers including a woman were with money and were running while some traders and hawkers run after them screaming ‘thieves’, ‘thieves’. They gun men turned and shot at the people who run after them,” the eyewitness narrated on Accra-based Rainbow Radio.
The gunshots from the suspected robbers injured about three people. They continued to run after one of them shot the security man, the eyewitness narrated.
“They dispersed after the security man was shot. Two of them including the woman managed to escape but one of them was shot by another security man from an SIC building close to the church,” he recounted.
The shot and injured suspect who tried to scale a 9 foot wall and one other were arrested by the police when they arrived at the scene.
The eyewitness said some other people who struggled with the police for the money after the arrest of the suspects were shot by the police.
“About two of them have also been injured severely,” he added.
The injured have been rushed to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for treatment. One of the suspects escaped with gunshot wounds.
