I paid Komla Dumor’s school fees – Nana Konadu

Ghana’s former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings has revealed she took care of all the tuition bills of late broadcaster Komla Dumor at the university level.

According to her, the ace British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) screen icon was her husband Jerry John Rawlings’ friend’s son and had to help him complete tertiary level education although she did not know him much then.

“I paid Komla Dumor’s fees at the university,” Konadu disclosed to Bola Ray on personality profile show Starr Chat on Wednesday.

The tough-talking ex-First Lady made the revelation when the issue of an infamous identification haircut case at the Castle – then seat of Ghana’s government – came up which saw Dumor interviewing her on the case.

It was alleged that one Selassie O’Sullivan-Djentuh, a former lover of Konadu’s first daughter Zanetor Rawlings was shaved by the military and locked in the Guard Room of the Castle over an altercation.

Mrs. Rawlings denied having a “hand in the case” but granted audience to Dumor, who was then with Accra-based Joy FM. However, she said the late journalist decided to focus on the latter part of the full interview which failed to present a true picture of their entire conversation.

“He is dead, so I don’t want to go further into that issue,” Konadu opined.

Nana Konadu was born on November 17, 1948. She attended Achimota School in Accra and later continued at the University of Science and Technology, where she read Arts, specialising in Textiles.

She was a student leader and an executive of her Hall of residence, Africa Hall. She got married to former President JJ Rawlings in 1977. She gave birth to her first child in 1978. She has three daughters and a son followed later.

She is the flagbearer of the National Democratic Party.

The Tertiary Education Institutional Network (TEIN) of NDC of the University College of Management Studies, (UCOMS) Accra campus, wishes to strongly Condemn in no uncertain terms the unsavory, uncivilized, and unwarranted comments and attack made by the MP for Assin North, Mr. Kennedy Agypapong , against the person of the very respectful, hardworking, competent and a learned individual, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Madam Charlotte Osei. We also wish to use this opportune moment to call on all Ghanaians most especially the Christian Council, the Peace Council, Women groups etc to condemn the actions of Hon Kennedy Agyepong which is becoming more of him as a legislator and an honourable member of the the second arm of government, and to call on Mr Agyepong to withdraw and issue an unqualified apology to the hardworking Chairperson of the EC.

TEIN UCOMS condemns his disparaging comments which borders on sexism, discrimination against women empowerment, disrespect for womanhood and disregard for our culture and traditions. His comment seems to suggest that women can only to rise in our society when they offer their bodies to men in authority. This is unethical and unprofessional to have come from a law maker. It is shameful, medieval and it will only come from an uncultured person.

We are not surprised about the misconduct and the behavior of both Mr Kennedy Agyepong and the NPP. In this peaceful country of ours, an MP would open his mouth wild to chant “All die be die” again as his party flagbearer did prior to the 2012 general elections. It is now clear that it has become their brand because their Grandpa and flagbearer started it. But we are happy Ghanaians are very much aware of the calculated attempt being adopted by the NPP and their surrogates to systematically denigrate and tarnish the hard won image and reputation of the Electoral Commission and the Commissioner. The misconduct of Mr Agyepong is only an echo of what the NPP, which in recent times is becoming notoriously noted for with such unsavory behaviors such as acid baths, sacking of key Northerners and Gas from their party, unwarranted attacks on Voltarians as foreigners, damaging people’s cars, attacking people at radio stations and for which NPP is widely noted for as Ghana’s most violent political tradition.

We therefore call on parliament to haul him before the Privileges Committee for bringing the image and integrity of the law house into disrepute and shame. We also call on all women wings of political parties, Non-Governmental Organisations, Human Rights bodies and societies, Queen Mothers and other traditional rulers, religious bodies and Ghanaians in general to condemn this distasteful comments by all means possible.
The personality and credibility of Mrs Charlotte Osei are not in doubt since her track records speak for itself. Being the former head of the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) and a legal luminary, she has the capacity and integrity to head such a respectable and delicate position as the Electoral Commissioner without any form of inducement. As the first female Commissioner which obviously empowers women, we thought it is an inspiration for other women to emulate but Kennedy Agyapong’s statement can be seen as a draw back to our growing democracy.

We wish to remind Mr Agyepong and the NPP that Ghanaians will not allow them to plunge this great country of ours into chaos just to satisfy one person’s selfish political ego. Ghanaians will vote for continuation of massive developmental projects as can be seen by all except those in NPP wearing wooden spectacles. Change is already happening and fellow Ghanaians believed in Sugar factory and not the so called copy copy to build “dog factory”as they NPP alluded to.

TEIN UCOMS CHAPTER wish to urge all women not to be discouraged by these comments from an uncultured men like Kennedy Agyapong but strive to reach greater and enviable heights in society and become good mothers for our beloved country.
Thank you
God bless Ghana
God bless NDC
God bless TEIN UCOMS
God bless women

Wallet turns into snake in thief’s hands

A well-known pickpocket was left begging for mercy on Monday morning after snatching a wallet that quickly turned into a deadly cobra into his hands.

The 27 year old Mdu (as known by his colleagues) snatched a wallet from an alleged Sangoma’s pocket. Monday morning was a different day in his office when the wallet turned into a snake when he was opening it.

An eye witness revealed that Mdu tracked the alleged Sangoma who was about to board a taxi and confessed that he stole his wallet and wanted to return it.

“He stole a wallet from an old lad, people around are just saying the old man is a Sangoma but no one knows the man around. When he snatched the wallet he went behind that billboard that’s when the wallet turned into a snake.

“Now he tracked the man and found him but the problem is the old fellow is denying his wallet, he even produced a pouch like wallet as proof to show that the snake wallet wasn’t his.

“The snake is not biting him but its stuck in his hands he failed to throw it way, this is first grade black magic.

The police just come after a commotion but they ignored the case, I am not sure what he is thinking right now but if the owner denies the wallet they will have to visit a popular local sangoma to cast out the spell,” he said.

A police officer who was at the scene, revealed that they can’t do anything about it but have only called the Parks and Wildlife management department.

Fashion Designers to Blame for Indecent Dressing in Ghana-Pastor

Fashion designers have been blamed for the increasing spate of indecent exposure in the country which seems to be the catching up well with a section of the youth.

The growing phenomenon of the women partially naked walking major streets of the country in name of fashion is fast becoming a norm raising concerns about morality.

But the leader and founder of Alive Gospel Church, Bishop Dr. Moses Gyewu, indicate that the country’s fashion designers are to blame to this negative development.

Speaking with Koforidua-based Bryte Fm, he observed that some of the fashion designers follow instructions and styles suggested by their clients and in some cases recommended them turning a blind eye to decency.

He bemoaned the level of indecency that has engulfed even the church as a result of the proliferation of what he described as uncivilized fashion, blaming the situation for increasing cases of fornication, barrenness and late marriage among the youth.

The man of God therefore urged the youth to be decorous when it comes to their fashion sense and desist from blindly copying foreign cultures to detriment of the rich African culture.

He welcomed proposals for the various churches to outline dressing codes to discourage indecent dressing.

Bride Breastfeeds Baby During Wedding Ceremony (Photos)

When Christina Torino-Benton’s nine-month-old daughter, Gemma, started crying in the middle of her June 18 wedding ceremony, she took one look at her fiancé, Danny Benton, and said: “It’s happening.” She then sat down and began to breastfeed.
“I made it work… I had to!” Christina told The Huffington Post. “Danny has always been so incredibly supportive on this breastfeeding journey, so he just nodded in agreement.”

No one blinked as the Canadian mama breastfed the couple’s daughter at the Resurrection of Our Lord Church in Lachine, Quebec, and the priest simply carried on with the ceremony.

“The people at my wedding were not surprised with me feeding Gemma mid-ceremony because I’m always feeding her at some point or another in front of them,” Christina said.
