Sex is nothing to be ashamed of: Zara Holland calls her romp with Alex Bowen ‘the biggest mistake of her life’ she exclusively revealed to MailOnline she does not regret having sex with the hunk

Zara was originally paired with Scott Thomas and the pair enjoyed a steamy kiss  – he then ditched her, after which she shared a romp in the bedroom with newcomer Alex.

Despite the show often being centered around the sexual antics of the stars, including a recent scene in which all the cast watched one couple romp, Zara’s sex scene came under fire.

The now-former Miss Great Britain was slammed by her co-stars and later had her crown revoked by organisers for her ‘disappointing’ behaviour – leading to her eventual departure from the house to be at her sick mother’s bedside.

Now the stunning blonde has spoken exclusively to MailOnline about the dramatic events of recent weeks – although she insists she does not regret her romp with Alex.

She said: ‘Women like to have sex. I just personally have never had a one night stand before and a lot of women have one night stands and there’s nothing wrong with sex and if you wake up in the morning and it makes you feel good.

‘Sex is nothing to be ashamed of. We’re all women but I just don’t regret my actions, I just regret doing it on TV.’

Slipped crown: Zara caused stirs of late after having sex on TV and subsequently losing her Miss Great Britain crown

‘Yes I did it on national TV, yes it’s a different story to if it was behind closed doors but it was in the hideaway it wasn’t in the communal bedroom. I’m not making it right or any better but you didn’t see anything.’

After her on-screen romp, Ofcom was faced with a flurry of complaints for sexual contact, immorality, outrage to public decency through suggesting and encouraging casual sex and casual sex for young adults and sexual material.

While many have accused viewers and critics of ‘slut-shaming’ – yet Zara is adamant this is not the case: ‘I don’t feel like it’s (slut-shaming). I think everybody makes a mistake and if you learn from it every one deserves a second chance in life. I made a mistake.’

While she is horrified at losing her title, the outpouring of support from the public has touched Zara, including a petition to help reinstate her title which has garnered over 19,000 signatures.

The same? Equality has been constantly called into question in regard to the situation and Zara agrees that if the shoe were on the other foot, Alex may not have suffered the same treatment

She said: ‘It’s been a whirlwind, very life changing. the negativity you just put it to one side and block it out. I cant thank the public for their support. It’s so overwhelming and it makes me feel very humble. I can’t stop saying thank you.’

The ex-beauty queen adds: ‘It’s interesting because people are saying to me if Alex was the equivalent and a Mr GB do I think his title would be taken off him? Probably not, no. There hasn’t been anything about Alex. I did say it takes two to tango and like I said I’m sorry. I thank the public for the support.’

Above all that happened between Alex and Zara, her biggest regret was losing her title and she has hit out at organisers for not informing her before releasing a statement.

Onwards and upwards: While she is horrified at losing her title, the outpouring of support from the public has touched Zara, including a petition to help reinstate her title which has garnered over 19,000 signatures
She said: ‘I wish the organisers had talked to me before they put the statement out. I just feel like everyone knew before I did. I’m not embarrassed. I was so proud to say I was Miss Great Britain. With Alex and I what happened happened. I’ve apologised I’ve said what I’ve said and I just thank the public for the support.’

What was most prominent from Zara’s dismissal, is how sorry she is, as she repeatedly issues apologies for her on-screen romance.

She said: ‘I feel like I have let certain people down and I’m sorry for what I’ve done. I never ever wanted to lose my Miss GB title it means the absolute world to me and I feel like from one silly mistake that happened I’ve thrown everything away.

‘I think its a massive shame that the Miss GB rules are like that and I had my Miss GB title stripped away from me but I’ve not committed a crime or been a bully or hurt anyone. I’ve made a mistake, I’ve owned up to it and I’ve said I’m sorry I feel like everyone makes a mistake in their life whether it’s now or in ten years, so long as you learn from it that’s fine.’

Blonde beauty: The Love Island star Zara admitted the moment she had sex with Alex Bowen was ‘the worst mistake’ of her life in an interview with Lorraine on Thursday.

In the uproar since Zara’s departure, she admits that there are elements of beauty pageants which have become dated – particularly not accepting women’s liberation.

Discussing the history of pagaents she said: ‘I thought beauty pageants had changed. 50 years ago it was about how you looked, they just went on how you were in your bikini. There was no charity round, no public vote, no publicity and just promoting a fit, healthy, good role model for the country.

‘I thought that had changed and you weren’t being judged on one little thing and I definitely would have thought that beauty pageants would fit in with today’s modern society but the response I’ve had from the public. The public are speaking out and I think a lot of people, like those who signed the petition, are feeling like the pageants are dated.’

Zara also revealed she was so impassioned about her title that she paid for own public relations company to keep herself prominent – blowing through her life savings as she went.

Distraught: In the uproar since Zara’s departure, she admits that there are elements of beauty pageants which have become dated – particularly not accepting women’s liberation

She adds: ‘I took it into my own hands and promoted the title so much I did my charity work. I did everything myself I took matters into my own hands and my own personal savings that I put into being Miss GB when I won.

‘After I won the title and I hired a PR company because Miss GB only got one event and everything else I got myself because I thought wow what an amazing opportunity.

‘There wasn’t anything coming through the official organisation so with the official PR company they got me to events and got my name out there but that’s because I wanted to and when you win a title as big as Miss GB and you’re representing your country at the world final why not make a big deal of it. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity and I wanted to do everything I humanly could to make the most out of it and I loved every moment of it.’

Earlier in the day, Zara appeared on Lorraine, in which the Scottish star left viewers and Twitter viewers stunned when she grilled the star and went as far as sternly stating: ‘What were you thinking?’

Too harsh? Earlier in the day, Zara appeared on Lorraine, in which the Scottish star left viewers and Twitter viewers stunned when she grilled the star and went as far as sternly stating: ‘What were you thinking?’

As Lorraine dished out her shock delivery, the blonde beauty passionately revealed she vowed to her mum she would ‘not do anything naughty on TV’ after which she let her down.

Lorraine continued: ‘It’s the premise of the show you knew that. Did you just forget it was on the telly? Were you just in this little bubble.’
One impassioned user wrote: ‘I do feel Zara Holland but for gods sake! She had sex! She hadn’t murdered anyone!’

No regrets: Although Zara was adamant there were no problems with the chat, as she told MailOnline: ‘I really enjoyed my Lorraine interview, I felt like it was very fair. I don’t personally see that and I had a really, lovely interview

Another user penned: ‘Lorraine Kelly is judgemental. She’s always been so with me too… Judgemental!’

Perhaps lamenting her interview technique, Lorraine swiftly took to the microblogging site to defend the starlet, writing: ‘Good luck Zara Holland – you made a daft mistake – you’ve apologized so now you can get on with your life!’
